We plant the seeds and help them grow

Year 4

Introducing the Year 4 Team

4GJ - Mr Jones - Class Teacher, Mrs Rookley

4HF – Miss Farrer – Class Teacher, Miss Garbutt – LSA

The children are expected to read every day and they will be given a spelling’s rule to learn each week. It is also important that all children are practicing their times tables regularly.

The Year 4 homework grid will also be issued each half term. This will include various activities based on our current topic. The grid can be found on the school website. This homework is optional; however is a great way for you to get involved in your child’s learning and to complete them together, as a family. The homework will be celebrated in a class show and tell session and may even make it onto our classroom displays! We would also love to see photos of you completing your efforts; these photos can be emailed into the school office.

Please make sure your child has their home school diary in school every day.

Year 4 will have PE every Monday (Swimming at Aqua Vale until Easter) and on a Tuesday.

The children need to have their PE kit in school every day during term time and it will be sent home with the children at the end of each half term.

The children have one PE lesson with their class teacher (swimming) and the other lesson with Mrs Westcott. Some of these lessons will take place outside so please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing in school at all times.

The children need to have a named Haydon Abbey PE T-shirt and black shorts for inside. As the weather becomes colder the children need to bring in warmer clothes for PE outside. They need to have a pair of trainers in school and they can bring in black or navy tracksuit bottoms and a black or navy jumper. Please remember to give your child an extra pair of socks if they are wearing tights that day.

Forest School

The children will take part in Forest School sessions on during the Autumn Term on Thursday afternoons.

The children will need to bring a change of appropriate clothing in a named bag each week.

If there is anything else you would like to discuss with your child’s class teacher they will be happy to make an appointment with you.

Incidentally, to help you to keep informed throughout the year, this and further newsletters will be uploaded to the school website.

All of the staff in Year 4 are looking forward to working with you and your children over the next year.
