Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this email finds you well.
At Haydon Abbey, our school value for this term is Wellbeing. We believe that ensuring the emotional and physical health of our pupils is essential for their overall development and success. As part of our commitment to fostering a positive school environment, we would like to share some practical advice that can help support the wellbeing of both pupils and parents.
Here are some simple steps that can make a big difference:
For Pupils:
Establish a Routine: Having a regular routine helps pupils feel safe and secure. Set a consistent time for school work, play, meals, and bedtime.
Encourage Physical Activity: Regular exercise is not only good for physical health but also helps improve mood and concentration. Encourage your child to be active every day, whether it's playing outside, walking, or dancing to their favourite music.
Mindfulness and Breathing Exercises: Teaching pupils simple mindfulness techniques can help them manage stress and improve focus. Try using breathing exercises, such as slowly inhaling for four counts, holding for four counts, and exhaling for four counts.
Healthy Eating Habits: A balanced diet plays a crucial role in a pupil’s wellbeing. Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole foods in their meals to provide the nutrients they need for optimal growth and energy.
Foster Open Communication: Encourage your child to share how they are feeling. Check in with them regularly about their emotions and experiences at school, ensuring they feel heard and supported.
For Parents:
Model Positive Self-Care: Pupils learn by example, so prioritise your own wellbeing. Take time for yourself, whether it’s enjoying a hobby, getting enough rest, or spending time with loved ones. When you show the importance of self-care, your child is more likely to value it too.
Create a Supportive Home Environment: A calm and nurturing home environment contributes to emotional wellbeing. Set aside time for family bonding, such as a shared meal or a fun activity.
Be Attentive to Stress: Pupils may not always express their stress or concerns directly. Keep an eye out for changes in behaviour or mood, and offer reassurance when needed. If you feel your child is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out to the school for additional support.
Limit Screen Time: Encourage a healthy balance between screen time and other activities. Too much screen time can impact sleep, concentration, and emotional wellbeing. Help your child establish screen-time limits that allow for more time spent on physical activity, reading, or creative play.
At Haydon Abbey, we are committed to supporting our pupils' wellbeing both in school and at home. If you ever have any concerns or would like to discuss how we can further support your child’s wellbeing, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we can make sure that our pupils thrive in every aspect of their development.
Kind regards.
