WOW what an amazing morning where the children/staff/parents/family friends & governors ran nearly 4000 laps collectively to raise money for Layla. A total of £1,336.05 was raised.
A massive THANK YOU and WELL DONE to everyone who has contributed both physically & financially.
We are all so proud of Poppy for making it through to round two of BBC Radio 2's 500 Words competition. Over 135,000 children entered and Poppy made it through to the next 5,000 children with her story, The Zebra who steals the Queen Giraffe's Crown. Her story was a delight to read and the judges clearly thought so too!
Dan Church came to school for two days and visited each class where he interacted with the children and made them all smile and laugh as they went through various sports facts and his role as a sports journalist. They each wrote a news report and then he gave a copy of this book to the winner from each class.
To launch our Gunpowder, Treason and Plot topic, the KS1 children became detectives for the day. We received news in the morning that a teacher in the school was plotting to commit treason by dethroning Mrs Ejdowski! We had a list of suspects and lots of evidence to sift through. After a busy day we finally found the culprit! Luckily they were caught just in time and Mrs Ejdowski's job was safe!
Bucks Fire and Rescue
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue recently approached our school to help name their new Fire Engine. We were given three possible names - Hope, Champion or Hero to choose from. All the children at Haydon Abbey School and Pre-School voted last week and the results were sent to the Fire Service.
On Tuesday 18 July the Fire service brought the new Fire Engine to school and announced the result of the votes to the children. The winning name was Champion with 283 votes compared to 187 for Hero and 66 for Hope.
The children got to sit in Champion, try on helmets and even had a go with the hose. They thoroughly enjoyed it as you can see from the photos below.
