Once you have been offered a place by Buckinghamshire Council and you have accepted the school place. We will be in contact with you via email in May 2026 inviting you at attend a play and stay session with your child on Tuesday 7th July (there are two different timed sessions - this information will be on your personal invite letter).

This letter will also inform you what timed sessions your child will attend school on Thursday 3rd September & Friday 4th September with ALL children starting school full time on Monday 7th September (8:30am - 3:00pm).

Getting to know your child: 

Before your child even starts, we work closely with their current preschools to understand their strengths, interests, and needs.

• Preschool Visits: Our Reception teachers visit your child at their current preschool to see them in a familiar environment.

• Meet Haydon the Bear: During these visits, teachers bring "Haydon," our school transition teddy bear who wears a miniature school jumper. We read a special story about Haydon’s first day at school to help normalise the daily routine.

• A Story to Keep: The transition bear stays at the preschool for the term, and your child will get their very own copy of the storybook to read with you over the summer.

• Extra Support (SEND): If your child has Special Educational Needs, our Assistant Headteacher and SENCO will join the visit to ensure all support strategies are perfectly in place.

Home visits:

We believe that building a strong partnership with you starts at home.

• Home Visits: Every new family receives a relaxed home visit from the Early Years Assistant Headteacher and your child's new class teacher. This lets us meet your child in the place they feel safest.

• Internal Preschoolers: For children already attending our school's internal preschool, our Reception teachers drop by regularly for fun classroom story sessions.

Seeing the School and Parent Meetings: 

Before the summer holidays, we invite you both onto the main school site.

• Stay & Play Sessions: Your child will join a small group of future classmates for a fun afternoon of play in their actual new classroom, helping them get used to the space without feeling overwhelmed.

• Parent Presentation: While your child plays, you will attend a meeting in the School Hall covering daily routines, uniform, school readiness tips, and how to prepare emotionally for September.

A Strong Start in September: 

To give every child individual attention and ease any separation anxiety, we use a staggered intake for the first few days of the new school year.

• Days 1 & 2 (Half Days): The class is split into two small groups of 15. One group attends the morning session, and the other attends the afternoon.

• Day 3 (First Full Day): The whole class comes together for their very first full day of school!

• Settling-In Curriculum: Our first few weeks focus entirely on learning school routines, making friends, and building up stamina through a balance of gentle teacher-led activities and purposeful free play.

Partnering with you: 

Curriculum Masterclass: Once the children are settled, we host a special workshop for parents. We will walk you through exactly how we teach reading (phonics), writing, and maths, giving you easy, practical ideas to support your child’s learning at home.
