At Haydon Abbey, we believe that listening to our children is essential to building a thriving, joyful school community. Each year, pupils elect their own representatives through a democratic vote, ensuring every voice is heard from the ground up. Working collaboratively across year groups, our elected student team takes ownership of key school projects—ranging from shaping outdoor play spaces to leading community initiatives. We empower our pupils to see themselves as active leaders, knowing that their ideas, feedback, and passion play a vital role in shaping the daily life and future direction of their school.

Followed by a Q&A session with the School Council Representatives

During a recent School Council meeting, the children took part in Parliament Week, an exciting opportunity to learn about how the UK Parliament works. They explored the different houses, the role of the King, the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. To extend their learning, they were given some activities to complete at home and encouraged to share what they discovered with their friends. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement.
