School Community Safety Event
Year 6 children attended a School Community Safety Event on Friday 28 June 2018 which was run by Aylesbury Vale District Council - the purpose of this event was to help pupils become more resilient by equipping them with he tools to deal with everyday life in the community as they transition to secondary school.
They organised a variety of topics and agencies to run mini workshops which included:- Cyber Safety (McAfee), Healthy Relationships (Women's Aid), Mental Health (Bucks Mind) and Child Exploitation including County Lines awareness (Barnardo's RU Safe?).
This was an excellent opportunity for pupils to receive invaluable information from the experts about personal safety and the vulnerabilities prevalent with young people, as well as learning about the different agencies that are able to support them through out their life. The children really enjoyed the day.
HAYDON ABBEY SCHOOL AND PRE-SCHOOL CUP CHAMPIONS!
Haydon Abbey triumphed over Edlesborough 1-0 in a nail biting final of the AVPSFA Mike Wise Challenge Cup played at Haddenham Junior School.
The game kicked off and as anticipated it was a nervous start for both teams giving away possession as they tried to start the match strongly.
Edlesborough had a handful of chances which were quickly closed down by some great defence by Jacob and Richard at the back. The ball moved swiftly on the surface which meant a fast paced game in hot conditions. The Haydon Abbey mid-field of Levi, Max and Captain Alfie broke down their opposition well and won some crucial tackles as well as creating a few chances of their own. Taylor broke through a few times but was kept out by some good defence from Edlesborough.
With a few rolling substitutions of Mason and Finley, the game started to really flow and Haydon Abbey seized their chance to strike with a long range goal from Haydon Abbey’s own Neymar, Levi. The boys held out despite an onslaught of counter attacking football from Edlesborough. Half time the Haydon Abbey boys were 1-0 up.
The second half started with both teams playing some lovely football. There was a mix of great defending and some brilliant runs from Mason and Taylor in particular. Finley held the ball up well and Haydon Abbey began to really enjoy possession and attacked well. In the final moments, and with tired legs running out of steam, Edlesborough went on the attack again. Haydon Abbey’s goal keeper, Logan, to the rescue as he made a series of great goal stopping saves. The final whistle blew 1-0, much to the delight of the Haydon Abbey staff and supporters who were out in force as the school had laid on transport.
Haydon Abbey would like to thank Edlesborough for a cracking final. Both teams represented their schools amazingly. Thank you also to Mrs Westcott and Mr Andrews who have coached and taught the boys brilliantly this year. However, the biggest thank you goes to the Haydon Abbey team: Alfie (C), Jacob, Richard, Max, Levi, Taylor, Finley, Mason and Man of the Match Logan.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to our sponsors PL Schoolwear who kindly gave all the boys a special commemorative t-shirt.
