Haydon Abbey School and Pre-School

We plant the seeds and help them grow

E-safety

Why is E-safety important?

Here at Haydon Abbey, we take every aspect of children’s’ safety very seriously. In the quickly evolving world of technology and social media, E-safety has never been more relevant.

Both the school and parents/carers need to ensure all is done to make technology an enjoyable, but safe, resource for learning and playing.

How does the school cover E-safety?

Quite often, the first experience the children get with many technologies is at school; it is therefore important they are taught how to use them correctly and safely. As a school, it is our duty to teach children about eSafety in computing lessons, assemblies and also through themed days.

Promoting E-safety at School

Regular E-safety guidance is vital as there are constant changes in online communication and technologies and we constantly look for opportunities to promote E-safety.

  • We provide opportunities within the school curriculum to teach about E-safety.
  • Pupils are made aware of legislation such as data protection, copyright, safe use of images and intellectual property – which bring limitations but are designed to protect.
  • Pupils are aware of the impact of cyberbullying and know how to seek help if they are affected by any form of online bullying.

Promoting E-safety in the Home

We also believe it is important for parents/carers to be aware of online and technological developments to ensure that they are able to protect their children in the home – where most online interaction takes place.
