Haydon Abbey School and Pre-School

Inclusion Manager

One Year Fixed Term Maternity Cover

Full Time (negotiable for right candidate)

MPS

Summer Term 2019

Haydon Abbey School and Pre-School is a larger than average, very successful, ‘good’ school in Aylesbury. We also manage a 120 place Pre-School adjacent to the school. Due to the growing success of the school over the past few years the school is now oversubscribed. We have a highly professional team of teaching and support staff who are dedicated to providing the best outcomes for our children. We are extremely nurturing with an excellent Pastoral Team who work alongside staff to enable children to access the curriculum. The school is very well resourced across all areas of the curriculum and we are committed to providing rich and exciting learning experiences for our children in order that they are very well prepared for the next stage of their education. We are committed to developing staff at all levels. Ofsted 7/2018 commented, “You have established a culture of high expectations”. We work closely with three local teacher training providers and have four trainee teachers placed with us across the school every year. This ensures that as a school we keep abreast of current educational policy to ensure that our trainee teachers, most of whom we go onto employ, have the best possible training here.

Our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion will be commencing maternity leave in the Summer Term. We are looking for the right person to take on the inclusion, not the leadership, aspect of her role until her return. In order that the right candidate is familiar with the school before they commence the role we envisage a handover period of at least half a term and possibly longer. This will be a non-class based role with an expectation that it may be necessary to cover classes on occasion.

This role provides a great opportunity for someone who wishes to progress their career in the area of inclusion. There may be further opportunities in the school when this fixed term contract ends.

The Inclusion Manager role is to:

  • Assist the Headteacher in the organisation and management of Inclusion and Inclusive practice. This pertains to children with Special Educational Needs including those who are more able and talented.
  • Ensure the school’s legal requirements in the area of inclusion are fulfilled e.g. implementing Education Health Care Plans and chairing Annual Reviews
  • Maintain good links with outside agencies who work closely with the school.
  • Support teachers and learning support assistants to ensure that the quality of inclusive practice is consistently good or better.
  • Ensure children’s SEN Support Plans are implemented and maintained.
  • Take an active role in the pastoral team in providing support for children.
  • Deliver interventions to individual or small groups of children.
  • Ensure children access relevant services including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Educational Psychology Services and that referrals are made in a timely manner.
  • Build good relationships with parents.
  • Provide class cover if necessary.

We require a fully qualified teacher with a record of consistently good teaching who is looking for a challenge. Although it is not essential to have the SENCO award it would be preferable if it was being worked towards. Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs is essential.

The successful candidate will:

  • be prepared to embrace new innovations
  • have aspirations to be a great teacher
  • have a good understanding of the primary curriculum
  • be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • have a proven track record of improving pupil progress
  • have high expectations of the children they teach
  • have a good understanding of behaviour management
  • enjoy working within a team
  • have a desire to be involved in school improvement
  • be committed to working in partnership with parents

We can offer you:

  • a warm and welcoming inclusive school community
  • enthusiastic children who deserve the very best
  • support and encouragement for your continuous professional development

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please ring to make an appointment. Further information, including an application form, a job description and school prospectus, can be obtained from the school by email: office@haydonabbey.bucks.sch.uk or by calling 01296 482278 or can be printed from below.

Haydon Abbey School is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all our pupils. We expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
