Autumn Term - Early Years
We are now at the end of our first term in Early Years and the children have all been very busy. The children are now well-established in their new classes, with Reception moving over to the Pre-School site in the main room and Pre-School having their own classroom. The children have settled in well and are happy in their year groups and routines and they have impressed us with how much they have progressed.
This term we have also welcomed some new members of staff over at Early Years. Miss Clarke and Miss Gaffney have joined our Pre-School team and next term we look forward to welcoming Mrs Damerell; who will be our full time Nursery teacher. This term we have also said goodbye, for now, to Miss Schmidt, who went on her maternity leave and welcomed her baby girl Madison. Both mum and baby are doing well. Mrs Mander will also be leaving us at the end of the term.
This half term we have had a few different topics – the children have learnt about fireworks, space, superheroes, transport and different festivals such as Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas. In the New Year, we will be launching our new topic; Occupations. If you know of anyone who is a hairdresser, mechanic, builder, chef or dentist, please do speak with a member of our staff over at Early Years. The children have shown a high interest in these occupations through their play, in all year groups and classes, and we would love for them to come and visit us next term to talk to us about their job and what it entails.
Over the course of this half term the Reception and Nursery children have also been busy practising their Christmas play and the Pre-School children have been excitedly getting ready for their Christmas concert, learning lots of festive songs. We were all very proud with how well the children performed at these events, at such a young age, and despite the reorganising of the play due to the adverse weather! It was so lovely to see so many of the parents at both these events.
In Early Years, we have recently re-launched the ‘Family Challenge’ across the phase in addition to Reception; we have been overwhelmed by the response from the parents. So far we have had a variety of pictures brought in, particularly of children reading different materials in different places. These pictures are now displayed in the reading areas of each class. We have also had some fantastic space related artwork in Reception and autumn related artwork in Nursery, which were proudly on display in the classrooms. This is so lovely to see and the children have been very proud telling us about what they have been doing at home.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents for their continued support and co-operation this term and the Early Years team would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.
